Batch Tray Distillation Unit (BTDU10)

Distillation is a unit operation used to separate components of a solution based on their relative volatilities between gas and liquid phase. The new phase is created from the original phase by vaporization or condensation and all components are present in both phases. The two phases contact on tray surface and continuously transfer mass. Then the vapor phase rich of more volatile components go upward and the liquid phase rich of less volatile components moves downward. In batch mode of operation, light component known as distillate accumulates in product tank and heavy component known as residue accumulates in reboiler. The unit is in semi-pilot scale and helps the user to practice and observe different features of the process.
